Although there's still plenty of time left on the Vanguard game cycle, the attention of many Call of Duty fans is already turning towards the launch of Modern Warfare 2. The sequel to 2019's Modern Warfare is already generating plenty of hype with leaks surrounding the brand-new DMZ mode appearing frequently.

In addition to DMZ leaks, a report from notable leaker "RalphsValve" shares a wealth of information on the Modern Warfare 2 alpha, the first chance for fans to play the game ahead of its full launch.

Modern Warfare 2 Alpha Release Date

The report from RalphsValve claims the alpha will launch in early August. With Infinity Ward having three years to develop Modern Warfare 2, the alpha enables the developer to iron out any potential bugs before the full game launches.

Modern Warfare 2 Gunfight

The debut of Gunfight in Modern Warfare proved hugely popular. The two-versus-two mode on small maps added a fun alternative to the standard dose of multiplayer and just like the 2019 prequel, the Modern Warfare 2 alpha will feature Gunfight.

Gunfight offers a small slice of what to expect in the multiplayer experience likely to appear as part of the Modern Warfare 2 beta.

Modern Warfare 2 Alpha Platforms

Although Activision is likely to become a Microsoft-owned publisher in the not too distant future, there's a high chance of the Modern Warfare 2 alpha is exclusive to PlayStation users. The current deal between Sony and Call of Duty's publisher is still in place so it's unlikely PC and Xbox players will have a chance to play.

Thankfully, those that miss out on the alpha will get the chance to play the beta before the full game launches.
