It's been a rough launch for Battlefield 2042. Following recent subreddit drama - where page moderators threatened to shut it down - fans have been largely disappointed by its release, and while it's currently a full priced game, EA could change it towards a free-to-play model.
According to industry insider Tom Henderson, EA is now "looking at all the options when it comes to the title," including a free-to-play relaunch. Alongside negative fan responses, it also sits at a "mixed" rating on Metacritic, scoring 61-68 metascore between different platforms.
Battlefield 2042 Could Become A Free-To-Play Game
Evidently, frustrations are mounting on both sides. Two weeks ago, EA's Global Director of Integrated Comms for Shooters, Andy McNamara, vented his frustrations on Twitter after fans criticised them for their silence, despite this being during the holiday break.
Henderson's promising further news later today, so until then, all we can do is wait and see what comes of this. Battlefield 2042 is available for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Make sure to follow us for more gaming news and updates as it happens.
