The Game Awards season is here, and everyone is already arguing on the internet which game deserves that coveted “Game of the Year.” From titles like Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Hollow Knight: Silksong, or Dispatch, gaming discourse is at an all-time high.
As Geoff Keighley’s annual gaming celebration draws near, there’s no better way to hype ourselves by injecting copium into our veins. It’s time we speculate which big reveals will steal the headlines as The Game Awards goes live this December 11.
Call me optimistic and paint me a clown costume, but here are games we love to see announced in The Game Awards:
Valve’s Half-Life 3

This is a no-brainer. Valve needs to reveal something that makes its newly announced Steam Machine worth buying. Half-Life 3 is definitely the best pick, but the real mystery is whether this elusive third entry actually exists or if it’s just a collective manifestation of everyone’s hopium and copium.
Will we see Half-Life 3 at The Game Awards? No one knows but Geoff Keighley and Gabe Newell.
Monster Hunter Wilds Expansion

Monster Hunter Wilds’ Title Update 4 is coming out on December 16, which is five days after The Game Awards. Capcom announcing the expansion for Wilds before Title Update 4 drops might feel a little bit awkward, but it could work.
Everyone knows that every modern Monster Hunter game now gets a beefy expansion with new monsters, mechanics, and explorable areas. Monster Hunter Wilds, despite its performance issues, is still one of Capcom’s best-selling games, and they would be silly not to showcase its major plans for their biggest IP at an award show with over 26 million viewers.
Personally? I think it is possible that we get a teaser for the expansion’s flagship monster.
Leon in Resident Evil Requiem

One of the worst-kept secrets in Resident Evil history is that Leon will be a playable character in the upcoming Resident Evil Requiem. To be fair, we have to give Capcom props for keeping their mouths shut despite numerous leaks circulating online.
Geoff Keighley recently announced that we will be seeing more Resident Evil Requiem in The Game Awards, so this might be the time we see Leon’s true role in the game. Who knows? Maybe the eyepatch image was true after all.
Hollow Knight: Silksong

Wait, never mind.
Super Smash Bros. Sequel

Nintendo has been awfully silent about the next Super Smash Bros. game. Four years have passed since the final character, Sora, joined Super Smash. Bros Ultimate’s roster, then Sakurai went radio silent apart from talking about game development on his YouTube channel.
Is Masahiro Sakurai cooking a new Super Smash Bros. entry? Possibly. After Kirby Air Riders, there is no other game to expect than Nintendo’s premier brawler. After all, the Nintendo Switch 2 just released, and Nintendo needs to have a big game to pair it with. Will we see it revealed in The Game Awards? Unlikely. But this is a copium list, and there’s a high chance none of the games mentioned here will appear.
Something Totally Unexpected

It’s time we address the elephant in the room: the cryptic statue that had everyone speculating. Industry veteran Jason Schreier has already debunked the God of War and Diablo rumors. So what could it be? Is it a remake of Dante’s Inferno, Elder Scrolls 6, or a teaser for Persona 6?
Judging from the demonic effigy’s appearance, it could be a game about fiery pits of Hell, but it could also be a big red herring just to keep us guessing.
Let’s be real here, we don’t really know what to expect at The Game Awards this Thursday, but I’m hoping to see at least one reveal from this list. Otherwise, it might be time to retire the clown costume and move on.
Wait... what if it’s Bloodborne Remastered?
