While Battlefield 6 hype is at an all-time high, it’s almost easy to forget that Battlefield 2042 is still around and has an active player base. Despite those initial negative reviews, many players hung around and have enjoyed the shooter for what it is, even if it's far from perfect. It looks like these users are getting something for their loyalty, as everyone waits for the newer entry.
Battlefield data miner Temporyal revealed that 2042 is getting one more major update before the release of BF6. This isn’t just your usual bug fixes, as the leaker claims that a new Japan map is being added. New weapons and vehicles are also going to be in this update, as well as some cosmetics with a Pax Armata theme.
Even with its poor reputation, it is somewhat admirable to see a failed game like Battlefield 2042 get updates like this. Although Battlefield 6 is everyone’s priority right now, especially with this weekend’s open beta, seeing a supposed failure get more support is commendable. The folks at EA promised to support 2042 for a long time, and it looks like they’re still committed to their word.

Many fans won’t call 2042 their favorite in the series, as it was capitalizing on dying fads like live-service gaming and battle royale modes. It didn’t help that the game launched in a poor state, with players experiencing bugs while playing and having a hard time connecting. The shooting and controls were solid, but there’s a reason why it was changed for Battlefield 6.
Despite all its faults, EA has taken what they’ve learned from Battlefield 2042 and have implemented these lessons in BF6. So far, most fans seem to be enjoying this realistic military shooter, with great controls and satisfying gunplay. It might have a hard time competing with the greats like BF4, but that’s a problem for another day, maybe even a year.
