In Resident Evil Requiem, the Cold Storage section looks optional early on, but progressing through the Rhodes Hill Chronic Care Center requires opening it.
The room is located in the West Wing, slightly off the main path near the Filing Room area. When you first interact with the door, Grace attempts to turn the handwheel, only for it to snap off completely.
Instead of a normal handle, you’re left staring at a hexagonal metal protrusion embedded in the door. That’s your clue that brute force won’t work here — you need a specific tool to manually operate the mechanism.
Where Do You Get the Level 1 Security Wristband?
You’ll need a Wrench to proceed, though obtaining it requires progressing through both sides of the facility and unlocking the appropriate security access.
Before anything else, you’ll need access to the East Wing. That requires unlocking the Unicorn Door leading into the Parlor and retrieving the East Wing Keycard from the corpse inside.
Once you have the keycard, you can move through the East Wing corridors, passing areas like the Examination Room as you advance upstairs.
Head upstairs and you’ll come across a safe room at the start of the hall, perfect for saving and adjusting your inventory.
After leaving that room, turn left and you’ll spot a corpse slumped in an archway near the Lead Researcher’s Office. A blue glow on its wrist signals the Level 1 Security Wristband.
Picking it up is mandatory, but it immediately triggers a dangerous enemy encounter. A large creature awakens nearby, so the safest move is to retreat quickly downstairs.
Fortunately, the waiting room area provides some breathing space, as the enemy won’t follow you there. From there, you can circle back toward the central hall and return to the West Wing.
Where Is the Wrench Located?
After obtaining the Level 1 Wristband, backtrack through the West Wing beyond the Parlor and Kitchen.
Ignore the kitchen door and proceed down the hallway until you reach the Level 1 Security gate.
The wristband grants access to the gate; once through, follow the corridor and enter the first door on the left to reach the Custodian’s Office.
The door is visually distinct, and once inside, you’ll find it functions as a save room complete with a typewriter and storage trunk. On the desk beside the typewriter sits the Wrench you’ve been looking for.
Make sure to pick it up before leaving, as it’s easy to overlook if you’re focused on inventory management. Once the Wrench is in your possession, return to the Cold Storage door in the West Wing.
Interact with the hexagonal mechanism and select the Wrench from your inventory when prompted. Grace manually operates the internal locking system to unseal the door.
