Dispatch: Why I Was Wrong About Blonde Blazer's Character

Dispatch

Dispatch

As much as it pains me to say this, there are no more Dispatch episodes, and I miss the Z-Team deeply. After its fantastic finale, I'm eagerly anticipating a potential Dispatch season 2 in the future, especially considering the game's major commercial success.

As I continue my life with zero Dispatch episodes, a thought gnawed at me: I was deeply wrong about Blonde Blazer’s character. Keep in mind that there are spoilers in this piece, so you’ve been warned.

Blonde Blazer is one of the first characters that Robert Robertson befriends in Dispatch. She’s basically the Wonder Woman in Dispatch’s world, cleaning the streets of crime alongside her boyfriend, Phenomaman, who is also a completely interesting character.

First meeting with Blazer.

That first flight I had with Blazer reminded me of Miles Morales and Gwen's moment in the Spider-Verse movie. Veering past neon-lit buildings and seeing the city's magnificent sights. It was just too perfect. The first episodes built up our relationship with Blazer and then put us on the spot as we were forced to pick a lane when a new romantic interest came crashing down: Invisigal.

As someone with trust issues thanks to the many videogames betrayals I encountered, I had to pick the latter. Invisigal and Robert’s chemistry was off the charts, and I could not help but feel like they’re the perfect match for each other.

It wasn’t until the final episode that I felt like I should’ve picked Blazer’s character rather than Invisigal. But before you gather your pitchforks, allow me to say my piece.

A date?

I really thought Blonde Blazer’s character was the game’s big bad. Silly old me even thought she was Shroud’s daughter or something. It would’ve been a major plot twist, but I’m glad I was proven wrong and Dispatch completely made her character likeable even more at the end.

The moment I found out she draws her power from her magical amulet, that’s when I knew I made the wrong choice. I love Invisigal, don’t get me wrong, but that big reveal changed the way I see her character. If I weren’t an bumbling idiot, I would’ve picked her right from the start. She has exuded nothing but kindness to Robert, down to even his lowest point in the series. My obsession with “villain plot twists” ruined what would otherwise be a great choice.

Dispatch is over, that I know of. But if I could go back in time to choose between Invisigal’s movie or Blonde Blazer’s dinner, I would’ve picked that dinner with Mandy. I’m not checking out YouTube videos for alternative choices, as I want to experience it for myself. In the meantime, I’ll have to get used to the choices I’ve made. I wasn’t being a good person to Invisigal at the end of my run, but at least the Z-Team was still with me.

Finale.

Maybe in another playthrough a few months (or years) from now, I’ll go back to playing Dispatch and finally pick Blonde Blazer as a romance option.
