Breath of The Wild 2: How Red Dead Redemption 2 Could Influence The Zelda Switch Sequel

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 was announced at E3 2019 at the end of Nintendo's traditional conference, and showed off a darker version of Hyrule.

Earlier this year, YouTuber Tyler McVicker revealed some unconfirmed information about the game (so approach with a fistful of salt). Perhaps most interestingly is that the game is expected to take inspiration from Rockstar Games' Red Dead Redemption 2, which launched in 2018 (as reported by NintendoLife).

Breath of the Wild 2 Could Take Inspiration From Red Dead Redemption 2

No, we don't think that means we'll catch Link getting hammered in a bar and screaming "Lenny!", but consider Skyrim's undoubted influence on the first Breath of the Wild, we'd be surprised if Nintendo wasn't looking at what other developers are doing in the open world.

While McVicker (skip to 11 minutes in video) didn't report on specifics (and alluded to another title it's taking cues from), we'd imagine it could have something to do with the way Red Dead Redemption 2's world feels like it continues ticking along with or without Arthur Morgan's actions.

Characters go about their routines, wildlife roams the wilderness and seemingly unscripted events can have unexpected outcomes wherever you are on the map.

McVicker also claims that the world of Breath of the Wild 2 will be an altered version of the original's, with a "miasma"-like corruption changing areas. He also expects dungeons to return, while Link won't need to climb towers because "canonically, Link already knows Hyrule, so there is no point in climbing the towers again". Makes sense to us.

Hopefully, we won't have to wait long to find out how the game plays, with fans waiting for the next Nintendo Direct with bated breath.
