Does Sylvanas Windrunner Die In The Sanctum Of Domination Patch 9.1 Spoilers

Sylvanas Windrunner was one of the most important lore characters going into the Shadowlands, with her ultimately leading the players into the afterlife, players were surprised to see her as a final raid boss so soon into the expansion.

Patch 9.1 Chains of Domination, sees players take the fight to the jailer in the Maw as they try to take out his most loyal subjects as well as Lady Slyvanas Windrunner herself as the final boss of the Sanctum of Domination raid.

While it is quite common for a raid boss to not completely die during an encounter like Jaina Proudmoore from the Battle of Dazar'alor, fans are split with what will happen to Sylvanas.

Her story so far in the Shadowlands is a confusing one, with a redemption story hinted at, players are expecting a sacrifice from her to save us from the clutch of the Jailer.

Latest Update

Now the patch has gone live and we know the fate of Sylvanas.

As many people had expected, she does not die during the encounter and attempts to save Bolvar, Thrall, and Jaina from the Jailer, however she is not powerful enough to do so.

The Jailer returns "something of hers" which appears to be half of her soul that people seem to believe was taken from her during the third war when she fell to Arthas.

Anduin is still under the control of the Jailer, and his story will be the next people will want to find answers on.

Sylvanas is now in the hands of Bolvar, Thrall, and Jaina and we can expect her to join them for the forseeable future.

Does Sylvanas Windrunner Die In The Sanctum Of Domination Patch 9.1 Spoilers

We have a few hints from developers in the leadup to Chains of Domination to look at, however, they do not indicate what will exactly happen to Sylvanas.

Back in May, community figure Sloot held an interview with lead developer Morgan Day, who said "When you fight Sylvanas, You will take her bow off her corpse."

Now he says this with a slight hesitation and says quote-unquote corpse, which he either is joking around for some fun to see what the community has to say, or he just said corpse by accident because you always loot corpses for items.

Sylvanas has also died multiple times already so technically she is already a corpse.

Game Director Ion Hazzikostas also said the following about the Sylvanas encounter with an interview with AusGamers.

"It’s on a scale that exceeds the vast majority of what we've ever tried to pull off in past Raids. And there is a combination that I can't spoil, but I am looking forward to seeing the community discuss and dissect as they try to figure out what's next for her. And what's next for the Shadowlands as a whole.”

Whatever happens at the end of the Sanctum of Domination we know will have a large effect on the story moving forward, and we can expect to learn the fate of Sylvanas either this reset or the week of the 13th when Mythic difficulty opens up.

We will share updates when the fate of Sylvanas is confirmed.
