The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners Aftershocks Update Launches This September

Resident Evil Saints and Sinners

Update - August 3, 2021

As confirmed via a new PlayStation Blog update, The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners' Aftershocks expansion will launch on September 23rd. Offering new missions, threats and "a new mystery to uncover", it'd previously been due to launch on May 20th, before facing significant delays.

Speaking further about this update, Skydance Interactive's project director, Mark Domowicz, released this statement:

I like to think of Aftershocks as a small ‘Thank you’ to the players who’ve supported us since the game released and as we’ve grown. These are the bonus missions, end-game content designed to surprise, delight, and challenge even our most diehard fans. And, it’s a small appetizer for bigger things yet to come!

We'll keep you informed as we discover more.

Update - May 18, 2021

Two days before it was due to launch, Skydance Interactive has confirmed The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners "Aftershocks" update has been delayed by several weeks. Announcing this is due to "unanticipated technical issues", they released this statement:

We’ve been spending a lot of time in the past weeks getting our game ready for the announced Aftershocks update. However, technical issues have arisen which we didn’t anticipate. Launching on multiple platforms and upgrading to a new engine version is tricky to say the least.

The bottom line is that we don’t want to ship without knowing that you can access the Aftershocks update on whatever supported VR hardware you’re using and have an experience up to our standards.
As such, we’ve made the hard decision to delay this update initially planned for May 20. This delay may push the launch by several weeks. We know having a definitive answer is important, so we’ll reach back out on our social channels once we have a final date we’re confident we can hit.

Thank you for your support and patience.

It's hard to believe that The Walking Dead comics launched back in 2003. Nearly two decades on, Robert Kirkman's series has built up a popularity base through the TV series, and it's no stranger to game adaptations, either. However, outside Telltale's The Walking Dead, many of those games have seen poor reception.

Back in January 2020, we witnessed an exception to this rule with The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners, a VR game now available on PC, PSVR and Oculus Quest. Seeing positive reviews, developers Skydance Interactive has continued supporting it, and following on from last year's "Meatgrinder" update, last night's Oculus Showcase revealed a second free expansion.

The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners Gets A New "Aftershocks" Update Next Month

Calling this "Aftershocks", Oculus Studios released a new trailer, and players can expect an offering of new missions, collectibles, and survival tools to uncover across the overrun city of New Orleans.

While Saints & Sinners usually requires players to take a more cautious approach. Aftershocks sees supplies from The Reserve being spread across this city, potentially forcing us to be more aggressive.

Launching for PC, PSVR and Quest platforms on May 20th, we're looking forward to giving this a try.
