Riot Games Talk About the Future of 5-Stacking in the Competitive Queue and When to Expect the Feature to Be Added

In a recent blog post, some of the Valorant developers answered questions that are currently circulating in the community including when we can expect 5 stacking to be re-added into competitive modes.

Competitive Designer Jon Walker said that the team is hearing the feedback from the player base and the team is actively working on ways to re-implement it back into the game without it causing too many issues.

There are two questions the team wants to answer when adding this feature back

  1. How can we enable five-stacks, with wide ranges of skill, to compete in ranked?
  2. How can we create a high-stakes competitive experience for teams?

Riot Games Talk About the Future of 5-Stacking in the Competitive Queue and When to Expect the Feature to Be Added

The team doesn't believe in splitting the queue into two game modes or adding a "flex" queue, as these can lead to players using one queue system over the other and it becomes the "real" ranked queue.

The next issue is dealing with match fairness, as often a 5-stack will have a mix of different skill levels as friends wish to play with each other.

So while the team is working on the next step for 5-stacks, there is no confirmation when this will be returning to the game, however, Jon Walker does say we will know more at the beginning of Episode 3.

The way Walker makes it sound leads us to believe that we may not see it at the beginning of Episode 3, but we can potentially get it in a later patch of Act 1.

Episode 3 is expected to later this month.
