Titanfall 2 may not have been given a chance to succeed, released between Battlefield 1 and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, but there's no denying it was a phenomenal game.

Still, the success of Apex Legends has no doubt led to a surge in popularity for Respawn's multiplayer shooter, and fans have been constantly asking for the developer to return to the frontier and bring Titans along for the ride.

Here's everything we know about the long-rumoured third instalment.

July 12, 2021 - Titanfall's Not Been Abandoned, But Only Has "One or Two People" Working On It

After the recent Apex Legends hacks, Respawn's community co-ordinator Jason Garza spoke on his YouTube channel, confirming:

The Titanfall community is not forgotten or abandoned or anything like that. We’re still working on it, it’s just we can’t telegraph our moves, and the thing is we only have like one or two people on it because everybody else is on Apex Legends, so don’t feel bad. It’s something we do work on, it’s just that these things take time, you can’t just press a button and everything’s fixed magically.

April 5, 2021 - Apex Legends Season 9 to include a “ton” of ‘Titanfall’ content

A new Titanfall game might not exactly be on the horizon anytime soon, but it's clearly still in the hearts of developers at Respawn.

During a Twitch panel hosted by BrownGirlGamerCode, Apex Legends’ Game Director Chad Grenier confirmed that Apex Legends Season 9 will contain a “ton” of ‘Titanfall’ content.

Here's the full quote from the stream:

“Next season, Season 9, you’re actually going to see a ton of Titanfall coming back into the game in one way or another. So, I’ve told some people before, if you’re a Titanfall fan, hang on for Season 9 because there’s going to be some really cool stuff in there,” Grenier explained.

“What’s going on in Titanfall is a war, Apex is what happens after the war, like what is life like in this place?” Senior Writer Ashley Reed later added. “So we’re trying to integrate Titanfall into that, because Titanfall’s very much a part of the universe.”

February 25, 2021 - Respawn Could Yet Make Titanfall 3

In an interview with IGN, EA chief studios' officer Laura Miele said:

“Apex takes place in the Titanfall world, and the Respawn team is incredibly proud of that legacy and brand; that team will determine what the future holds for Apex and Titanfall. I don’t believe in directing or telling game teams what to create; it has to come from the player community and the inspiration and motivation of developers.”

Sounds as though Titanfall 3 is an option, with Respawn having the freedom to work on new games in that universe.

Titanfall 3 Release Date

Don't expect any news soon, but a recent leak from TheNeon_Beast, a Brazil-based Apex Legends leaker, has suggested that the game is in early development.

In a since-deleted tweet, they said "Titanfall 3 is for real".

“I’m pretty sure leakers can say the same, cuz we have totally different sources. The good thing is: even with different sources, the rumor is exactly the same.”

This allegedly comes from multiple sources, although we're unable to verify those at this point - although Apex Legends dataminer Biast12 has also confirmed that their sources also confirmed a Titanfall threequel is in development.

yeah i can confirm that part https://t.co/6ueD69AA4t

Platforms

The first Titanfall was a PC and Xbox One exclusive, while its criminally underrated sequel moved to PlayStation 4, too.

Expect the third instalment to hit PC, Xbox Series S/X and PlayStation 5 when it eventually does launch.

With Apex Legends coming to Nintendo Switch, there's always a chance the franchise could come to the platform - but don't bet on it. Especially if it's more graphically demanding.

Trailer

Steady on, the game hasn't been announced yet!

Thankfully, that gives us a chance to rewatch the Titanfall 2 trailer, which in turn will almost certainly mean we'll go back to playing Titanfall 2.
