Previous Tales of games had a variety of different ways it handled combat, and it looks like Bandai Namco will be following that ever-changing trend with Tales of Arise introducing a new skill tree system in the upcoming JRPG.
The reveal of the new Tales of Arise was shown during a special Tales Of and Scarlet Nexus broadcast held on May 1st of this year. It highlighted not only the new environment and characters but combat and the skill tree system that is unique to Tales of Arise.
The Tales of Arise segment, which we should note is only in Japanese and doesn't provide subtitles, starts on the 40:00 mark. Thanks to Siliconera and their helpful translation, we know that players were shown a desert environment and the enemies there. After a few waves of combat, players were introduced to the aforementioned skill tree system.
According to Siliconera, the Tales of Arise skill tree system will be unique for each and every character that you can control. Skill Points (SP) will need to be acquired through combat and levelling up, and then used to unlock skills as the player progresses throughout the game.
This new skill tree system from Tales of Arise looks almost like a limited version of the skill tree system from Final Fantasy X, however other characters will not be able to unlock skills from other character's skill trees.
Tales of Arise is set to release for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and PC on September 9th, 2021 in Japan. For the rest of the world, you can expect the next chapter of the popular franchise to arrive a day later.
