What Is A Spellcaster In Sims 4?

To put it simply, Spellcasters are Sims' answer to wizards, witches, or warlocks. That is to say they're a Sim that can use magic: spells, potions, a broom - you name it, they can do it!

Sorceror Sims can cast spells akin to practical jokes, or to make themselves famous. Potions can make a Sim fall in love, heal a malady, or even make an object disappear.

Players will need to equip their Spellcaster accordingly, but thankfully there are shops that sell wands, brooks, and Tomes each day. There's also a potion shop, and a place to buy crystals. Spellcasters can also get Familiars - there's a choice of a few mystical creatures to assist you and cheer you on in your magical studies.

Be aware, though, that it isn't all fun and games. Magical Sims can fall under the influence of Curses, such as the Curse of Repulsiveness or Curse of the Night Wraith. These curses can be broken with a spell or potion... if you've mastered that.

So, now you want to know how to become a Spellcaster. Well, there are technically two ways to become one. The first is to create a Spellcaster in Create-A-Sim, but that's boring, so here's the best way to induct your Sim into the magical ways:

  • Travel to the Glimmerbrook neighborhood.
  • You'll need to wander around a bit until you find a Magic Portal that leads to the Magic Realm. It looks like a big stone archway with blue or green glowing mist in it.
  • Once you've gone on down to magic town, search for one of the three Sages. You'll see a title above their heads so you know when you've got the right Sim.
  • Convince them you want to learn to be a Spellcaster, and the Sage will allow your Sim to use the Mote Sight: this will show Motes (purple glowing orbs) around the area.
  • Collect seven Motes from within the Magic Realm.
  • Take the Motes back to a Sage - it doesn't have to be the same one.
  • The Sage will then do the Right of Ascension and voila! Your Sim is a Spellcaster.

Also, once you're a wizard, you can continue your magical bloodline! Who doesn't want to give kids a head-start on their magical abilities? The Spellcaster Bloodline can (can, not will) pass on to the next generation. If it does, the child will have some cool benefits, including extra XP, less likelihood to Overload, and extra Spellcaster Points.

How Do I Level Up As A Spellcaster?

Once you've got yourself turned into a true Spellcasting Sim, your next motive is to grow your powers and improve your skills. The best way to do this is to do magic. Seriously. Just practice, practice, practice! Read spell books, read potion pamphlets, and other magical tomes to learn even more.

You can ask to be mentored by Spellcasters that are more experienced than you, too.

There are six ranks to grow through as you work on your Spellcasting:

  • Rank 1 - Apprentice
  • Rank 2 - Neophyte
  • Rank 3 - Acolyte
  • Rank 4 - Adept
  • Rank 5 - Master
  • Rank 6 - Virtuoso

Graduating through these ranks will earn Spellcaster Points, which can be used to unlock Spellcaster Perks, more of which unlock with each new level. There are a total of 24 Perks and they are sorted into three main areas: Alchemy, Prowess, and Spellcasting. As the names suggest, these three categories pertain to slightly different areas of magic, and give different boosts.

How Do I Stop Being A Spellcaster?

If you somehow grow bored of being able to craft potions and cast spells, you can always return to regular Sim life with the Rite of Dissolution.

Like the Rite of Ascension, Sims will need to visit a Sage and ask for the ritual to be performed. It will remove all access to magical powers, but also will stop you from getting cursed. If you change your mind again, you can ask for the Rite of Ascension. Your powers will be back at the same level as they were before, which is nice.
