Is iPlayer Coming To PS5?

At the time of writing, there is no BBC iPlayer app available on PS5. Many users have voiced frustration with this and it seems the app is a lot more used than people may have thought. For a while, PS5 owners were sort of left in the dark in regards to whether iPlayer would ever come to the console. Well, recently Stealth Optional reached out to the BBC about this situation, to which they responded:

“Both Microsoft and Sony have confirmed that some apps, including BBC iPlayer and BBC Sounds, aren’t available yet on the newly released PlayStation and Xbox consoles.”

“We are keen to bring them to the new consoles and are continuing to work with both Sony and Microsoft to add it as soon as possible.”

So it looks like for now there's no real definitive answer as to when but at least we know it should be coming to next-gen. For now, users will have to access the app in other ways such as mobile devices, on desktop and through smart TVs. The good news is that when BBC iPlayer does eventually come to the PS5, it won't be as much of a hassle to access. Players can now use the new Media interface instead of using the PS Store.
