Counters for Gordie

Gordie specializes in rock-type Pokemon, these Pokemon are often weak to multiple types such as water, grass and fighting.

At this point of the game, you will likely already have your complete Pokemon team and we reinforce the idea of having a wide array of typings on your team.

Be sure to watch our wide variety of Pokemon content here!

The Pokemon typings best suited for this gym battle are:

  • Water
  • Grass
  • Ground
  • Steel
  • Fighting

If you picked Scorbunny/Raboot/Cinderace as your starter Pokemon, you may struggle; however you will likely be able to teach it a fighting type move. As we said before, you should have a team with a variety of types and have at least one or two that can combat this gym with ease.

Gym Challenge

Gordie's gym challenge is set around an old iteration of minesweeper, trainers will be equipped with trap detectors and you are tasked with maneuvering your away around each section without triggering one of these rock pits.

Triggering one of these will cause you to be reset to your last checkpoint and there are also a couple of trainers along the way. All in all this one was rather easy and shouldn't bother players too much.

Gordie

Gordie's first Pokemon that he sends out is a LVL 40 Barbaracle, a water/rock type that packs a punch. Do not let this Pokemon boost its stats as it will then use Razor Shell and one hit most of your Pokemon.

After this Gordie will send out a LVL 40 Shuckle and a LVL 40 Stonjourner.

The final Pokemon and also the one that Gordie will Dynamax is his LVL 42 Coalossal, a water/fire type, so if you picked Sobble at the beginning of the game or have a strong water type, be sure to Dynamax it here. A rather easy battle if you are well equipped for it!
