Pokemon Go: Reality blending and Pokestop scanning coming to Samsung and Google phones

Pokemon Go is still going strong, and trainers will be able to enjoy new features in the coming weeks.

Reality Blending, a technique that helps Pokemon more realistically interact with real-world geometry, is currently in testing for Samsung Galaxy S9, Samsung Galaxy S10, and Google Pixel 3 and 4 devices.

That means you'll be able to peek behind a tree to find a hiding Pokemon, or display Pokemon in your own home and watch as they walk behind your coffee table or jump from behind the sofa.

Niantic is planning to roll the feature to more devices in the coming months.

Niantic's blog post explains "We are now introducing a new way for your buddy to become part of your world like never before. By taking advantage of the latest AR functionality on devices like the Samsung Galaxy S9, Samsung Galaxy S10, Google Pixel 3, and Google Pixel 4, we are developing ways your buddy can appear more realistically within the world around you. We are excited to announce that we are testing the new Reality Blending feature in snapshots for Pokémon GO."

Also coming is PokeStop scanning. This will allow players to record videos of a Pokestop to help Niantic map the space and refine AR features.

This will be an opt-in feature for level 40 trainers in early June.

"At Niantic, we are working to develop a dynamic 3-D map of existing PokéStops and Gyms so we can continue to develop and refine AR features in the future. To help in this mission, we are bringing an opt-in feature to the Pokémon GO community called PokéStop Scan, which will be first available to level 40 Trainers in early June before rolling out to more players by level" the latest blog post explains.

You can find more information about both Reality Blending and Pokestop Scanning in Niantic's latest blog post, as well as an example of the former in action.
