A Modern Warfare 3 fan has recreated an iconic meme video that first went viral over a decade ago.
To celebrate 20 years of the Call of Duty franchise, Sledgehammer Games has reconstructed all 16 launch maps from 2009's Modern Warfare 2 sending players loading into the action on a nostalgia-filled trip down memory lane.
The original MW2 saw an explosion of creativity from players creating montages using their favourite guns and weapons in addition to unique ways to taunt members of the opposing team. With the old maps back in rotation, one fan decided to recreate a video involving an unsuspecting sniper and a hilarious use of in-game text chat.
User Corpas_ took to Reddit with their recreation of a video that first gained traction 13 years ago.
The video sees the player climbing up a ladder onto a rooftop where a sniper has found a line of sight overlooking the opposite end of the map. Instead of picking them off, they choose to send them a message forcing the opponent to turn around before being eliminated.
As expected, there are plenty of fans giving the reconstruction their seal of approval. One fan says: "That OG vid is legendary. Seen it so many times throughout the years." Another adds:" This video made me realise that the medals in MW3 2023 are a reference to the ones in MW2 2009."
Considering Modern Warfare 3 uses some of the most recognisable battlegrounds from 2009's Modern Warfare 2, it's great to see Sledgehammer Games paying tribute to one of the most popular entries in Activision's shooter series. It's even better to see fans reconstruct videos that continue to prove popular decades later.
The next time you're lying prone and scoped in with a sniper rifle, always remember someone could be preparing themselves for a viral clip thanks to the use of text chat. It won't be long before the spinning trickshots off the edge of Highrise make a return.
