GTA Trilogy on mobile was downloaded 18 million times in one month

Netflix’s mobile release of GTA: The Trilogy on Android and iOS was a huge success for the streaming service’s Netflix Gaming division.

Released last December, the GTA mobile release was the biggest launch ever for the mobile gaming brand. Even with the game only available on iOS and Android 11+, the mobile ports are massively successful.

Via MobileGamer, Netflix’s game downloads hit 10 million in November 2023. However, in December, 28 million downloads occurred on the Netflix gaming service. This is due to the 18 million downloads related to the GTA games.

Since release, the remaster of GTA: San Andreas had the highest number of downloads at 11.6 million. In second place, GTA: Vice City was downloaded 4.1 million times. Finally, in third place, GTA III was downloaded 2.4 million times.

The Grand Theft Auto mobile ports of the classic PlayStation 2 games have proven better than their console counterparts. With the new ports, classic lighting effects have been restored to give the mobile versions more of their original aesthetic.

Netflix Gaming is currently only available on mobile. However, the games service are expected to come to cloud gaming services via SmartTVs sometime in the future.

Via our sister site Stealth Optional, Netflix’s cloud gaming service has already been tested on some SmartTVs. This version of the app started with just two games: Oxenfree and Molehew’s Mining Adventure.

Over the Netflix Gaming service’s existence, a number of other games have proven popular, although not as popular as the GTA games. The narrative adventure game Storyteller has been downloaded 9.4 million times. The Too Hot to Handle game, based on Netflix’s dating show, has been downloaded 8.4 million times.

Netflix Gaming is expected to be massive expanded in 2024 as the cost of the service continues to increase. Games based on Stranger Things, Squid Game and Black Mirror are expected to release in the near future.

Netflix Gaming is currently included in a base Netflix subscription on mobile.
