GTA 5 sex trafficking mod uses real victims’ stories to educate young gamers

A new GTA 5 mod has been released to teach players about the issue of sex trafficking. Created by Swedish non-profit Talita, the new GTA mod pack uses real-life victims’ stories to educate players.

Talita is a real-world charity designed to help women who have been subjected to sex trafficking, prostitution or the pornography industry. The non-profit women’s organisation offers safe housing, trauma therapy, psychoeducation and other benefits for victims.

Dubbed Mission Talita, the new GTA 5 mod has been created to target young male gamers who should be more impressionable. The mod recreates the stories of four women that have been helped by the organisation over the past six years.

“What started out as a gangster game has now evolved into a world where people - particularly young men - hang out, take on different roles, and shape the storyline. However, it's also a place where young men can buy virtual sex, every day. And in the game, the non-playable prostitute characters' fate is set. They can almost only be exploited, abused, or murdered,” reads the mod’s description.

“Given that GTA might be many young men's first exposure to victims of sex trafficking and prostitution, the risk is imminent that the game will affect their perception and attitudes toward prostitution in a harmful way."

Mission Talita takes the typical GTA mission structure and flips it on its head. Instead of helping villains do horrible things to women, you’ll be saving them from horrible situations. While it’s not known if the next game in the series will even include prostitution when the GTA 6 release date comes around, it likely will have at least some themes of prostitution within the open world game.

Alongside the new missions, Mission Talita also includes a brand-new radio station to enjoy. Alongside facts about prostitution and Talita’s efforts to help women, the radio station also includes music from the band Swedish House Mafia.

While most mods for PC games revolving around sex end up focusing more on the best sex mods for Skyrim and other games, Talita’s GTA V mod is the exact opposite.
