Death Stranding 2 is somehow far weirder than the original

A new trailer for Death Stranding 2 has been revealed at the most recent PlayStation State of Play, showing a somehow even more bizarre trailer than Hideo Konima’s first game.

Titled Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, the new game sees protagonist Sam Porter (played by Normal Reedus) joining a new organisation called Drawbridge to connect the world just like he reconnected America.

Revealed alongside games such as Sonic x Shadow and Silent Hill: The Short Message, Death Stranding 2 shows an utterly bizarre action game that only Kojima could create.

At its core, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach looks largely similar to the original in terms of gameplay structure. The open-ended exploration returns alongside structure building and vehicles and some of the more linear set pieces. However, Sam’s story appears to be taking a much more complex and strange turn as you uncover the mysteries of the game’s curious black tar.

For those who didn’t play the original, the Death Stranding 2 trailer may be almost entirely inconceivable. It’s certainly a game made for fans of the original game, and even then it’s made for those who saw the lengthy open-world game down to its mind-blowing conclusion.

Alongside the reveal of Death Stranding 2, Hideo Kohima also revealed a new PlayStation exclusive game in development at Kojima Productions for PlayStation 5. Developed alongside the Xbox exclusive game O.D, this new title will be an action espionage game similar to Metal Gear.

With three games now in the works, Hideo Kojima is certainly keeping busy. That’s not a bad thing — the iconic game designer’s titles have always been made with a large degree of quality, and that pedigree appears to be continuing. Even with three games in the works, the game director’s ideas never seen to run out.

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach releases exclusively for PlayStation 5 consoles sometime in 2025. The game may also see a PC release in the future, just like its predecessor.
