The Riot Shield makes its return to the Call of Duty franchise on Modern Warfare.

As one of the most entertaining yet unorthodox weapons to use in the Modern Warfare arsenal, there are a variety of ways that it can be utilised to your advantage, especially if you're an objective player in Season 5.

Class 1 – Hide & Seek

This first class is perhaps the most annoying for other players to deal with. Completely invisible to killstreaks and UAVs, you can hide anywhere on the map and ambush players easily.

Perks

  • Cold Blooded (Perk 1)
  • Ghost (Perk 2)
  • Tracker (Perk 3)

The first two perks in this combination will leave you undetectable to killstreaks that use AI targeting systems and any opposition UAVs flying in the air. Use tracker to your advantage and sneak up behind an enemy for a stealthy takedown.

Grenades

  • Claymore (Lethal)
  • Smoke Grenade (Tactical)

If you decide to hide in a dark corner of a building, place a claymore at the main entrance for an easy kill. Or if you’re feeling crafty, throw a smoke at your feet in a congested area of the map and beat down any unsuspecting opponents in the cover of the smoke.

Field Upgrades

  • Trophy System

It is likely that the opposition will try to flush you out of your hiding place with a well-placed grenade so place a trophy system to avoid any explosive surprises.

Killstreaks

  • Personal Radar (3 Kills)
  • Care Package (4 Kills)
  • Cruise Missile (5 Kills)

Locate nearby enemies with ease thanks to the personal radar. The ability to acquire the higher killstreaks for a lot less effort with the care package makes it the perfect fit for a riot shield class.

Class 2- Rear Guard

Class number two is using the riot shield in a different way. Rather than equipping it, have it on your back for some additional cover.

Perks

  • Overkill (Perk 1)
  • Hardline (Perk 2)
  • Battle Hardened (Perk 3)

Equip a strong weapon to use instead of the riot shield. We suggest using the M4A1, AK47 or the Oden while the riot shield protects you from being taken down from behind.

Grenades

  • Molotov Cocktail (Lethal)
  • Snapshot Grenade (Tactical)

The Molotov is perfect to use when breaching a headquarters or domination flag that is controlled by the enemy. Before throwing the molly however, pop the snapshot grenade to see the location of enemies that are in close proximity.

Field Upgrades

  • Dead Silence

Dead silence is the best way to move around the map quickly and without alerting the enemies to your position.

Killstreaks

  • UAV (4 Kills)
  • Precision Airstrike (5 Kills)
  • VTOL Jet (8 Kills)

Using the riot shield passively will allow you to score killstreaks that deal more damage. On the large, open maps, the VTOL has the potential to score huge amounts of kills.

Class 3 – The Showman

The third and final class is for the players that love to create those moments worthy of the highlight reels.

Perks

  • E.O.D (Perk 1)
  • Ghost (Perk 2)
  • Shrapnel (Perk 3)

Shrapnel allows you to spawn in with an additional piece of lethal equipment, meaning in this case you get two throwing knives at your disposal.

Grenades

  • Throwing Knife (Lethal)
  • Gas Grenade (Tactical)

The throwing knife can be used in a multitude of ways to get those epic plays while the gas grenade weakens the opposition, making them susceptible to a quick hit from the riot shield.

Field Upgrades

  • Munitions Box

Earn an additional throwing knife and any ammunition for your secondary weapon thanks to the munitions box.

Killstreaks

  • Personal Radar (3 Kills)
  • Cluster Strike (5 Kills)
  • Wheelson (7 Kills)

This low-scoring streak combination is great for increasing your awareness of enemy positions while dealing plenty of damage by controlling the wheelson.
