Call of Duty League 2020: Minnesota Røkkr Home Series Schedule, Standings, Roster Changes, Ruleset and More

The inaugural season of the Call of Duty League resumes on the 12th June after being pushed back a week from its initial start date.

Originally planned to take place in Minnesota, this week’s CDL follows the previous four events in being entirely online due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Tournament favourites Chicago Huntsmen currently sit at the top of the CDL table, having claimed victory at the most recent Seattle event- their second series win of the season.

However, Atlanta FaZe remain close behind and will be looking to reclaim the top spot after not participating in the Seattle event. They face a challenging group with Dallas and Minnesota- third and fourth place respectively- who are looking to close the gap on Chicago.

The eight participating teams are split into the following groups:

  • Group A: Atlanta FaZe, Dallas Empire, Minnesota Røkkr, Seattle Surge
  • Group B: Chicago Huntsmen, Florida Mutineers, LA Guerillas, Toronto Ultra

London Royal Ravens, OpTic Gaming Los Angeles, Paris Legion, and New York Subliners are the teams not participating in the series.

The top two teams in each group will advance forward to a single-elimination bracket that will determine the winner of the Minnesota series.

As each victory in the CDL is worth 10 Points, alongside a bonus 10 Points for the overall series winner, teams can earn up to 50 Points in the series. Points are distributed as follows:

  • 1st Place- 50 Points
  • 2nd Place- 30 Points
  • 3rd/4th Place- 20 Points
  • 5th/6th Place- 10 Points
  • 7th/8th Place- 0 Points

After the Minnesota Røkkr series, there are only four more events before the CDL Championships in August. These are:

  • Paris Legion Home Series- 19th-21st June
  • New York Subliners Home Series- 10th-12th July
  • London Royal Ravens Home Series- 17th-19th July
  • Toronto Ultra Home Series- 24th-26th July

Championship Weekend

The CDL Championships are planned to take place in August.

The top eight teams at the end of the season will qualify automatically into the winner’s bracket. The top two teams will receive a bye until Round 3 of the bracket, and 3rd and 4th place will receive a bye until Round 2.

The bottom four are seeded into a loser’s bracket, in which two teams will progress to the winner’s bracket.

The prize pool for the Championships currently stands at $4,200,000. It will be distributed as follows:

  • Champions (1st Place)- $2,000,000
  • 2nd Place- $1,000,000
  • 3rd Place- $500,000
  • 4th Place- $300,000
  • 5th/6th Place- $200,000
  • 7th/8th Place- $125,000
  • 9th/10th Place- $75,000
  • 11th/12th Place- $0

Roster Changes

The most significant change since the previous series is the announcement that Damon “Karma” Barlow is retiring from competitive Call of Duty.

The esports veteran and three-time world champion’s announcement is a huge blow to Seattle Surge, who have replaced Karma with Nicholas “Proto” Maldonado.

Aside from Karma, Joseph “Owakening” Conley replaces Chance “Maux” Moncaivaez in Florida Mutineers’ first team.

CDL Competitive Ruleset and Game Modes

The ruleset has not changed since for the upcoming series, still using the v.1.9.1 ruleset introduced on April 16th for the Chicago Huntsmen Home Series.

The full ruleset can be found on the official Call of Duty League website here.
