Metroid Dread had an incredible start this month. Becoming the franchise's best-selling launch in the UK, it released to strong reviews but Nintendo aren't stopping there. Offering up an "early Halloween treat," a demo's just gone live on the Switch eShop.

Mostly, this demo's identical to Dread's opening moments. You've got a refresher on the previous 2D Metroid entries, the opening cutscene and gameplay is restricted to Artaria, the first explorable region on planet ZDR. You can't use save stations, though auto-saves are still in place.

Within this announcement, Nintendo released this statement:

This Halloween, suit up as Samus Aran and see what goes bump in the night on planet ZDR with a fun-sized bite of the Metroid™ Dread game. Experience the eerie isolation of a remote alien world, face a relentless mechanical menace, and power your way through a section of what Shacknews calls “a sci-fi blast of brilliance that fans and newcomers alike will more than likely enjoy.”

We had strong opinions in our own Metroid Dread review. Awarding it 4.5./5, we called it "a classic Metroid experience that still forges a new series identity, with its smart approach to action and pacing." As such, we'd recommend checking out this demo, and you can buy the full game for £49.99/$59.99/€59.99.
