What are Hero Wars teams?

Hero Wars teams are the band of characters you take into battle in this popular battle simulator. You can have up to five characters in your team, though you'll initially start with just one, which will obviously limit your strategic options, yet make it easy to get to grips with the game's mechanics.

As you progress through the campaign, you'll unlock more slots. Though Hero Wars teams are generally stacked with the best gacha characters later on, decent early squads can be build with characters you meet as you complete levels.

Once things start to get serious, you'll notice that Hero Wars teams are more than just a random assortment of characters. Each hero has a rather specific role to play in battle: for example, Galahad (the starting character) is best used as a bulky tank, soaking up damage while dealing relatively little. Other, more nimble, characters like Thea can then damage enemies in the meantime.

These sort of combinations need to be considered when you're making your Hero Wars teams. Forget the basics and you'll likely end up with a group of unbalanced fighters with a low chance of survival.

What are the best Hero Wars team setups?

Considering there are well over 100 characters in Hero Wars, it's hard to pinpoint a specific 'best' team. Such a thing existing would negate all competition and render the game a little pointless.

Since each character performs a slightly different role, and not all characters are available to unlock freely, it's unlikely that two players will have the same roster. But that doesn't mean a meta hasn't formed around some of the stronger, rarer characters in the game. To aid in setting up your winning Hero Wars teams, here's a golden rule to remember:

Strike a balance

Good Hero Wars teams strike a balance between the seven different available character roles. These are as follows:

  • Tank
  • Warrior
  • Marksman
  • Support
  • Control
  • Mage
  • Healer

These types all have different abilities and benefits in-game, so it's a matter of testing out different combinations of roles to see what works. However, there are some roles that you'll definitely want to have. One good core setup requires a Tank, Warrior, and Healer. Between them, they'll soak up hits, deal damage, and keep the team alive.

That traditional RPG setup takes up just three of your five character slots though. What you do with the rest is up to your specific strategy and vision. Most would pad things out with more damage dealers, but as they can't deal any damage if they're killed in battle, it can sometimes make more sense to take a more defensive approach, either taking two tanks or two healers (or both) in place of additional damage dealers.

How do I make a Hero Wars team?

Formulating Hero Wars teams is a broadly simple process. In the early stages of the game, it's even done automatically. As you only unlock increased team capacity one slot at a time, your team is automatically built as each new character join your roster. As such, you aren't able to tweak your setup until you unlock your sixth character, thus gaining options. Once you have them, you'll be prompted to edit your Hero Wars teams right before you dive into battle.
