Spider-Man 3 leaks and speculation
We can confirm that Spider-Man 3 is planned to be released at some point in the future, having been revealed in the leaks following the major cyber-attack launched against Insomniac Games in December 2023.
However, if you were hoping that this means that Spider-Man 3 has an imminent release date, you're out of luck. Unfortunately, Insomniac isn't planning to release Spider-Man 3 until Autumn 2028 at the earliest. This is primarily due to the other projects in development by the studio, most notably Marvel's Wolverine and Venom which are set to release before then.
Insomniac Games has already confirmed publically that Miles Morales will replace Peter Parker as the main Spider-Man in games going forward. This doesn't necessarily mean we won't be able to play as Peter in Spider-Man 3, but we certainly expect him to take less of a starring role.
In fact, there's a good chance that there will be three playable characters in Spider-Man 3. According to the leaks, Cindy Moon, also known as Silk, will be a playable character in Spider-Man 3, following her appearance in a post-credits scene in Spider-Man 2. Three protagonists for the third game in the series does make thematic sense, after all.
There's also an initial rumour that stems from the Insomniac leaks, indicating that Spider-Man 3 could be released in two parts. This release strategy isn't uncommon in the film industry, but it's rare to see a video game adopt this approach. However, it's more likely that the second "part" is more akin to free or paid DLC that would be released after Spider-Man 3, similar to Spider-Man 2.
Lastly, while nothing was confirmed regarding who the villains will be in Spider-Man 3 from the Insomniac leak, we've got some pretty good ideas for who might feature. In our opinion, the Green Goblin will almost certainly be the main bad guy in Spider-Man 3; since Marvel's Spider-Man, it's been hinted that Norman Osborn will take on the mantle of the iconic villain at some point in Insomniac's series.
