Want to know the best support hero picks in Overwatch 2? Like with any team-based shooter, knowing the right picks can literally make or break the match for you. With a roster of heroes as massive as that of Overwatch 2, it's always worth keeping up to date with the current meta and who's in and who's out.

The game in its current state has been a great season to be a support main in Overwatch 2, and as the meta picks have developed we've seen support heroes able to hold their own rather than be completely at the mercy of their teammates' decisions. Let's take a look at where certain heroes rank and discuss why they're either a god-tier choice or if they're an automatic throw.

If you're more of a DPS main, be sure to brush up on our Genji guide. We've also got a Season 7 Rise of Darkness hub that details everything you should expect in the new season, and if you're having trouble loading into a lobby, you should check out our Overwatch 2 server status hub.

Overwatch 2 support hero tier list (Season 7)

We've compiled our Overwatch 2 support hero tier list in a handy table below, but we'll take a closer look at the rankings and discuss our picks. It's worth remembering that no support hero pick is entirely bad. All of the heroes have pros and cons, and with a game so saturated with choice, most of the time it really just depends on team composition and synergy.

With that being said, there will always be stronger picks more in line with the current meta, so let's take a look at our support heroes tier list:

Kiriko

Kiriko has been a really strong pick since she first appeared on the roster in the first season of Overwatch 2. She can be an incredibly aggro support hero thanks to the massive damage output of her kunai and her ability to teleport in and out of fights, but the rest of her kit is just as useful.

Her healing Ofuda is easily deployed, near-constant, and can be spread to multiple heroes at once. Kiriko's ultimate, Kitsune Rush, is also an insanely powerful buff to her teammates and can turn the tide in her team's favour almost instantly. But most impressively, her Protection Suzu is arguably one of the greatest clutch abilities in the game.

Timed right, a perfect Suzu can negate Junkrat Riptire, Orisa's Terra Surge, and a multitude of other attacks, including Ana's and Junker Queen's anti-heal abilities.

Ana

Like Kiriko, Ana has been a staple pick for a fair amount of time now, and it's interesting to see the two hard counters share the S-tier top spots in our support hero tier list. But where Kiriko is aggressive, Ana is a backliner and is best played from a distance as she utilises a sniper rifle for both damage and healing.

Ana is perfect for keeping tanks alive, which is arguably why she's one of the best support heroes in Overwatch 2. It's argued that a good Reinhardt is nothing without an even better Ana. Her Biotic Grenade is one of the best support abilities in the game, as players can clutch heals on critically low teammates and prevent the enemy supports from healing theirs. Her sleep dart - when you can actually land it, mind you - is a perfect counter to almost any ability in the game, and the satisfaction of stopping a Solider 76 or Cassidy as they deploy their normally devastating ults is unmatched.

But it's her Nano Boost ultimate that packs the most punch. Paired with Ramattra or Genji's ults, it unleashes a literal hell on your enemies. She's one of the ultimate support hero picks because her kit is based on enhancing the abilities of her teammates.

A-tier support heroes

Baptiste

Baptiste is a great front-lining support pick. His damage output has always been really solid, and his burst weapon can really deal out some pain and suffering. His Exo-Boots allow him to reach different vantage points, and so he has a fair amount of mobility.

Equally, his healing grenades can churn out the heals pretty rapidly and because they're an area heal upon impact he can hit multiple targets at once. Perfect for when the entire team is trying to fight through a choke point or around a corner. He can also self-heal, which is why he's so fun to play up close and personal with enemies, but this also extends to his teammates. His ultimate, the Amplification Matrix, isn't the best in the game and its effectiveness is mostly down to luck - although paired with an ulting Soldier 76 or Orisa, it can still be pretty effective.

But it's his Immortality Field that really lets Baptiste shine. Similar to Kiriko's Protection Suzu, Baptiste's Immortality Field can negate a number of different abilities, and almost that alone gives him a place in the higher ranks.

Illari

Illari is the newest support hero in the roster, and even after some almost-immediate reworks and nerfs, she still places high on our tier list as she's a great counter to unorganised enemy teams. With this in mind, though, once the player base becomes more accustomed to her kit, we expect her to fall slightly.

Arguably her best ability is her healing pylon. It works much like a Symmetra turret, where you can place it anywhere on the battlefield and it will constantly, passively, heal your teammates when they're in range. It doesn't expire, and if you can find a hidden placement for it, it can be incredibly difficult for the enemy team to get rid of it.

Her ultimate, Captive Sun, is also still a devastatingly aggressive ability, and if Illari's teammates can take advantage of it, you can score a team kill pretty easily. But like we said, once players start to figure out counters, we think that Illari will fall to somewhere in the middle ground of the rankings.

Moira

Moira is a great all-rounder and an almost perfect pick in lower elos. Her Fade ability earns her fantastic movement, and she can dip in and out of choke points, enemy ultimates, and sticky situations alike. Her Biotic Orbs are perhaps one of the best parts of her kit, with a decent healing output as well as passive damage in otherwise hard-to-hit places.

Got an enemy Widowmaker wreaking havoc? Throw a purple orb up to her hiding spot and you'd be surprised how quickly it can take the sniper out. Moira's ultimate, Coalescence, is another great all-rounder, as it can be utilised as a healing clutch when your tank is critical or you're trying to hold a point, or it can be used super aggressively. Paired with a Zarya, Reinhardt, or Mei ult, and it can wipe the floor with her enemies.

B-tier support heroes

Mercy

Even with the contentious rework to her kit, Mercy is still a pretty solid support pick. She's paired well with any bullet-spraying hero such as a Solider 76 or a Bastion, as her damage beam ability can increase her teammate's performance considerably.

However, there is still a skill ceiling when it comes to playing Mercy effectively, particularly with the changes to her Guardian Angel. Seasoned Mercy mains felt the changes almost immediately, but for casual picks she can still take a little getting used to. However, when her wings are used properly, she can be a menace and almost impossible to hit, and this can have the enemy team forced to counter-pick to deal with the aerial threat she poses.

Plus, with the ammo in her Caduceus Blaster increased, the infamous battle Mercy - colloquially now known as Hurricane Katrina on social media - is actually stronger than ever, so Mercy doesn't have to just be a pocket healer, she can be used to fight, too.

Zenyatta

There's no denying that the best part of Zenyatta's kit is his Orb of Discord. It's been a talking point for the longest time, and it's extremely satisfying to use, and incredibly annoying to go up against because it can melt through even the strongest of tanks. Plus, his Transcendence ultimate ability basically negates a good majority of other ultimates and abilities.

However, there's no getting away from the fact that Zen is sluggish. He's pretty squishy and has no movement ability, so if anyone gets a pick on him, chances are he's insta-dying. His abilities are very fun to use, but his healing output isn't great and he's an easy target. That's why he's middle of the ranking for us.

Lifeweaver

Lifeweaver has slowly started to crawl his way up the meta ranking since his release in Season 4. After many tweaks and adjustments, he's now a pretty decent jack-of-all-trades. That can also be his shortcoming, too.

It means he doesn't outright excel in at least one area. His healing output is still quite weak, and his petal platform is useless in active play and is only good for negating a few ults - and even then, it needs to be placed perfectly, and at exactly the right time. His Tree of Life ultimate can be pretty clutch, and it's fairly easy to charge up.

The star of his kit, however, is the Life Grip. Those that have ever been continuously Rein charged, Roadhog hooked, or otherwise sent flying off the map, rejoice at the fact Lifeweaver can pluck them to safety. It can turn the tide in an instant, and it's a great counter to the boop heroes. Overall, we're confident that Lifeweaver is still a middle-ground pick, although we wouldn't be surprised if he continues to climb up the ranking.

Lúcio

Players either love or hate Lúcio, whether playing him or going against him. His boop is probably one of the best parts of his kit, as he can shove a whole bunch of enemies off a map given the right opportunity.

That's just the issue: he's opportunistic instead of strong all around. His healing output is good as an area of effect, but it's slow and less effective than others. His ultimate, Sound Barrier, can come in really clutch, but again, it's a case of the right opportunity instead of being good in its own right, which is why we've placed him on the lower end of our ranking.

C-tier support heroes

Brigitte

Now, let's clear this up - we're not saying Brigitte is bad. We're saying people generally don't know how best to utilise her. So more often than not, you'll come across a terrible Brig than a good one.

However, when you do get a good Brigitte, she's almost impossible to defeat. She's a mini-tank thanks to her shield, she can boop players with her Whipshot, and if Brig players aren't afraid of getting their hands dirty, her healing output can be huge.

But that's just it, support players are so used to either playing in the backlines or just playing it safe in general, that the support mentality doesn't quite universally translate to playing Brigitte.

There you have it, that's our Overwatch 2 support heroes tier list! Don't be disheartened if your main isn't top of the roster - ultimately, it's down to who you prefer to play and what sort of team composition you're going for.
