January 31, 2023: As the Season Two start date nears, we've updated our guide with all the latest information on the changes arriving to MW2.

Despite Activision confirming a delay to the Season Two update for Modern Warfare 2, Infinity Ward has shared a sneak peek at what the second seasonal update has in store for players dropping into the action. Usually, the Modern Warfare 2 Season Two patch notes provide a closer look at any changes making their way to multiplayer.

Although the full patch notes aren't out yet, the developer has unveiled a few teasers surrounding the arrival of fan-favourite game modes, new maps, and more.

Before we take a closer look at the early Modern Warfare 2 Season Two patch notes, take a look at our other guides showcasing the best Modern Warfare 2 guns along with intel on the next Modern Warfare 2 double XP event.

Modern Warfare 2 Season Two patch notes

It's worth mentioning the official patch notes for the Season Two update won't arrive until a few days before it goes live. Despite this, there's already a surprisingly high amount of information on what it includes. Here's the latest intel you need to know for the new season.

Ranked play launches

After announcing Modern Warfare 2 ranked play will arrive in 2023, the statement posted on January 18 confirms the competitive playlist launches in mid-February.

This is hugely exciting news for those that want to play exactly like the pros battling it out in the Call of Duty League (CDL). Alongside competitive rules and regulations, there are bound to be plenty of exclusive rewards to earn by climbing through the ranks.

New multiplayer maps

Since its launch, the selection of Modern Warfare 2 maps has grown stale much to the annoyance of players. Rather than adding new battlegrounds into the existing pool, Infinity Ward reintroduced Shipment and Shoot House for a trip down memory lane.

It's safe to say that the current map pool lives up to the high bar set by the likes of Raid and Standoff, but there's always a chance a new map captures the attention of the community. Let's hope it's better than Border Crossing.

New game modes

Alongside the arrival of new maps, new game modes are also on their way to MW2 in Season Two. For fans of more casual modes, recent leaks will have you excited. Logos for Gunfight and Gun Game have appeared within the game files suggesting their return is imminent.

Gunfight's popular 2v2 arena mode first appeared in 2019's Modern Warfare and became so popular, an in-game tournament bracket and exclusive rewards raised the stakes. As for Gun Game, the party mode sees players work their way through the arsenal in a bid to become the first to score a kill with 20 weapons.

These modes will inject a breath of fresh air alongside the usual doses of Team Deathmatch and Domination. We'll have to wait and see if Infinity Ward has anything planned for Ground War. Perhaps include the new Warzone 2 resurgence map?

Alongside the new modes, Hardcore is coming back in Season Two. Tier 1 is disappearing but the decision to revert Tier 1 makes little sense. However, it's great news for Hardcore fans!

That's all we know about what's appearing in the Modern Warfare 2 Season Two patch notes. We'll update the guide with new intel as soon as it appears and the full patch notes once they are published. In the meantime, take a look at our guide showcasing the best Modern Warfare 2 sniper rifle to use.
