When will we get new game plus in God of War Ragnarok? If you’ve beaten Odin and snagged all those pesky ravens, you might still be hungry for a challenge. We know we want to get back on the battlefield for a second go ourselves!

2018’s God of War had a new game plus mode, letting you restart your journey with Atreus. You could keep your Talismans, Runic Attacks, Armour, Enchantments, Weapons, and Skills. However several of the Metroidvania-style unlocks, such as Atreus’ lightning arrows, weren’t available from the get-go.

God of War Ragnarok didn’t come with a new game plus mode, so when will it get one? We’re not quite sure, but we’re certain that Santa Monica Studio is working on it.

When will God of War Ragnarok get a New Game Plus Mode?

We haven’t got a solid answer from Santa Monica Studio or Sony just yet, but we can safely assume that God of War Ragnarok will get a new game plus mode in the first half of 2023.

Horizon Forbidden West, Spiderman Miles Morales, and Ghosts of Tsushima all received new game plus modes, so we’d bet good money on God of War Ragnarok following suit.

2018’s God of War received its new game plus mode on August 20, which is roughly four months after its release. If we follow the same timeframe, we can expect God of War Ragnarok to get a new game plus mode in March 2023. It could release later, however, as making a new game plus mode for the sequel might take more time.

For starters, the game is longer, and there are also more weapons to consider for balancing, like the new Draupnir Spear.

On the other hand, 2018’s God of War was a fresh reboot for the franchise. We’re sure Sony knew they had a winner with its sequel, though. More resources may have been dedicated to getting a new game plus mode up and running.

What can we expect from new game plus in God of War Ragnarok?

We can expect to enjoy the same journey with all of our hard-earned kit from the first playthrough. We can also expect similar limitations to 2018’s God of War.

You probably won’t have access to any item that lets you explore a new area. That means no Draupnir Spear, Enchanted Chisel, Runic or Sonic Arrows. Maybe Santa Monica Studio’s working on a hidden trick of game design that’ll let you keep these items without their barrier-busting qualities, but we wouldn’t count on it.

Other than that, expect to hack, slash, and bash your way through God of War Ragnarok’s brilliant campaign a second time. We figure it’s worth it, even if you might need to hunt down those darn ravens again.

In the meantime, we recommend completing God of War Ragnarok’s extensive side content. If you’ve not experienced the game’s second ending, we recommend starting there. Otherwise, you can revisit the Sanctuary Grove with Freya or delve into the dangerous Jungle of Vanaheim with our handy guides.
