After the success of Cyberpunk 2077 Edgerunners, the open-world RPG has seen a resurgence in popularity. Although its initial release came under scrutiny, since then the game has seen a number of updates all aimed at improving launch issues. To speak ill of the game's launch wouldn't be a surprise to many, but because of it, a number of people haven't been willing to give it a second chance.

Luckily, since then the game has seen a number of updates that helped restore faith in the fans. Though the game is far from how it was at release, some might find it still lacking. But that's where Cyberpunk 2077 mods come in. These mods either improve the general quality of the game or even add new elements that change gameplay altogether. In this list, we'll be walking you through the best mods Cyberpunk 2077 has to offer in 2023.

On top of that, you can check out our list of GTA 4 mods and Dwarf Fortress mods for tweaks and new additions in other games. We've also got Resident Evil 3 mods to keep the scares, or laughs, rolling in.

Amateur Hackers

When playing Cyberpunk 2077, you will be very familiar with the hacking mechanic. This gives you the ability to hack opponents and impair them in combat. But despite living in Night City, where anyone could be a netrunner, there seems to be a serious lack of them. That's where this mod comes in. Amateur Hackers is the work of modder Scissors123454321, whose previous work includes adding vehicle-based combat and robotic companions to the game.

Amateur Hackers adds danger to the game, where you might find yourself hacked more often, and leads you to strategise certain encounters. If you're the kind of player who thought the base game's encounters were too simple, then this is definitely the mod for you. These amateur hackers aren't as lethal as netrunners, but they are capable of basic hacking that'll spruce up any combat encounter.

Weather Randomiser

This is perhaps not something you thought mattered all that much, but the weather system in the base Cyberpunk 2077 game is quite bland, to say the least. With the occasional sandstorm ravaging the city centre and then normal rain storms out in the Badlands, there isn't much variety. But that's where modder Halliphax2 has gotten to work, in creating Weather Randomiser.

According to Halliphax2, the mod accomplishes this by increasing the number of weather-to-weather transitions, which the game’s weather system depends on, from 18 to 35, allowing for more variety. This mod is brilliant at making the game feel more alive, with a living and breathing world.

Pet Your Cat

In the world of gaming, not being able to pet your animal companion is considered a crime. That's where the mod Pet Your Cat comes to solve the worst crime CD Projekt Red committed. Modder Deceptious has given everyone’s favourite cybernetically-enhanced hero the chance to unleash some killer belly rubs and strokes on the furless friend (called Nibbles) they can adopt by completing a short side quest.

Granted, this isn't the most groundbreaking mod in existence, but it certainly is a much-needed breath of happiness in a game of a mostly horribly depressing world!

Metro System

Although the game features a huge and expansive open world in Night City, most people tend to use one of two options to get around: fast travel or driving. Throughout the game, you might spot the metro system, but it isn't operational in-game. You can use it to travel from one place to the next through the magic of the loading screen, but in this mod by NexusGuy999, the Metro System can be a fully ridden method of transport.

The Metro System mod adds a fully useable NCART System to the game, which lets you switch between a third-person and a first-person perspective. It includes 19 handbuilt stations, where you wait for the train. From these carts, you can appreciate and enjoy the sights of Night City as you let yourself be taken across all the districts.

Neu-ReSpec

Throughout the game, you level up and diversify your portfolio of abilities and attributes. Like the original tabletop version of the game, you have your stat points which will grant you certain abilities. However, once you make these selections, you can't go back on them. This might be quite troublesome if you're not quite as well-versed in the abilities and attributes Cyberpunk 2077 has to offer, and then later discover they would have rather specced out another attribute altogether.

That's where Neu-ReSpec comes in. Modder psiberx made this mod with the intention to allow players to respec their character at any moment. This restores attribute points for selected attributes or resetting all attributes at once, and adjusting skill levels to match new builds or keeping gained experience.

However, this mod is slightly less useful after a 2022 update added native respec and stat reset mechanics in Cyberpunk 2077.

Let There Be Flight

Cars are a fairly important aspect of Cyberpunk 2077, so of course there's a wide number of mods for your automobile traveling. Perhaps one of the greatest is the flying car mod, Let There be Flight. This mod is straightforward: you can own a flying car to make your way around the city instead of on wheels. This mod, by jackhumbert, is a fully functional flying simulation, making transport between city districts all the more interesting and fun.

It enables a configurable flight system for all vehicles with custom thruster models, visual and sound effects, and animations. This means you can still use any of your own vehicles and give them a fantastic new upgrade.

As Cyberpunk 2077 continues to grow as a game, so will the modding community. We don't expect 2023 to be any different, as Cyberpunk 2077 sees more and more attention, it will continue to see even more enhancements made to bolster its newfound success. We've got even more guides for some great mods, so be sure to check out how to romance Johnny Silverhands (who doesn't?), as well as installing Banksy graffiti all over Night City.
