Some fans are wondering exactly what the Baldur's Gate 3 max level is. In any RPG, reaching the max level usually means you've done all you can do in the game. Whether that's completing all of the side quests, finishing the main story, or seeing everything the world has to offer, max level traditionally signifies when a player can feel true completion.
With Baldur's Gate 3, though, attaining max level means even more, as your character won't be nearly as strong if they don't reach that vaunted territory. Below, you can see exactly what the confirmed max level will be for the full launch of Baldur's Gate 3.

What is the Baldur's Gate 3 max level?
In a lengthy blog post from late June, developer Larian Studios revealed the official max level for Baldur's Gate 3. Prior to this announcement, fans were speculating that it could be as high as 20, as that's the level cap under the Dungeons & Dragons 5e ruleset, which the game will follow. Other fans were less optimistic than this, as level 20 is quite high.
Larian Studios has come to a decent compromise, as it has confirmed Baldur's Gate 3 will feature a max level of 12. This is, of course, at least to start. There very well could be more levels added down the line in the form of an expansion.

Level 12 is also two levels higher than the developers originally planned, as level 10 was long thought to be the game's eventual max level. In the Early Access build of Baldur's Gate 3, the level cap was four, so gaining eight new levels is quite the step up for those that played early.
As players ascend the levels with their character in Baldur's Gate 3, they will primarily unlock new spells and become more powerful. Upon reaching the max level of 12, players will unlock the Planar Allies, Otto's Irresistible Dance, and Chain Lightning spells. Chain Lightning is one of the most iconic D&D spells, so many fans will likely be eager to reach max level to start using it.
