How to beat Grym in Baldur's Gate 3

In Baldur's Gate 3, Grym is a mechanical golem that will attack you in a huge forge. It is immune to most damage types, so you can't deal much damage to Grym by simply hitting it with your weapons and magic. Instead, you'll have to be smarter and use the forge against the Grym in order to break it.

How to use the forge to defeat Grym

The forge has a few control elements that you need to be aware of before battle commences. First of all, there is a huge wheel that works like an activator for this whole structure. If you interact with it, you will fill the forge with boiling lava. After that, you will have less room to manoeuvre, as there will only be a few platforms that lava won’t fill.

The second element is the anvil lever. If any of your characters pull it, you will activate a huge hammer in the middle of the forge. It will hit the anvil... And anything that may be standing on it.

Making the Grym vulnerable

Yes, Grym is difficult to damage and even lava cannot melt it. However, if the golem steps into the lava, it becomes vulnerable to bludgeoning damage and resistant to some other damage types.

The most important part of this status is that Grym now takes significant damage from the hammer. Also, you have to be aware that the golem focuses on the character that attacked it last. So, with all this information we can work out an effective strategy.

Strategising how to take the golem down

First of all, place one of your characters next to the forge activator, one next to the anvil lever, and one on the anvil itself. The last one should not stand on the round pedestal, which is the anvil, but on the platform on which it is placed.

Make sure the lava is active and the vulnerable debuff is on Grym. You'll be able to tell by the way his armour glows almost white hot. After that, use the character on the anvil to lure the boss onto the pedestal. We recommend using a tank character, like Karlach the barbarian, to do this.

Then you will have to use the lever and smash Grym with the huge hammer. The golem will be knocked prone and receive tons of damage.

After you deal some damage to the boss, a few Magma Mephits will spawn. Deal with them, and then repeat the procedure we described above. Two hits from the hammer and additional strikes from your characters should be enough to win this fight.

Grym is a tough opponent, but if you do everything as we described above, you will be able to beat it with no trouble!
