Everything We Know About the GTA 5 Next Gen Upgrade

We're getting a GTA 5 next gen update later in 2021, and it's looking like a big one.

The game, which originally launched in 2013 on PS3 and Xbox 360, will offer new "expanded and enhanced" versions for the latest console hardware.

Rockstar recently announced the GTA 5 next gen update release date and while we haven't actually seen what it looks like yet, we do know a few of the changes the enhanced version will bring.

Some of these changes involve GTA Online, with a special bonus for PlayStation 4 players between now and when the upgrade releases.

July 19 - Exclusive Upgrades

Rockstar announced exclusive speed upgrades and other enhancements will be available for "select" vehicles in GTA Online version, but only if you have the next-gen GTA 5 upgrade.

GTA 5 Next Gen Update Release Date

Rockstar announced GTA 5 PS5 and GTA 5 Xbox Series X (and S) will release November 11, 2021.

GTA Online is also releasing the same day as a standalone package, so you'll be able to download one or the other instead of having to install both.

From now until November 11, those playing GTA Online on PS4 will get $1 million in GTA money every month.

GTA 5 Next Gen Graphics

Rockstar previously stated the game will feature "a range of technical improvements, visual upgrades and performance enhancements to take full advantage of the latest hardware, making the game more beautiful and more responsive than ever.”

In a new Newswire blog post, Rockstar promised further surprises for the online mode for those jumping into the new versions.

GTA 5 Next Gen Trailer

So far, the only next-gen trailer Rockstar published is the one during Sony's PlayStation 5 reveal showcase.

GTA 5 Next Gen Free Upgrade?

Rockstar hasn't said whether GTA 5 PS5 and GTA 5 Xbox Series X will be free or have an upgrade fee.

GTA Online's standalone edition won't be free, however. PlayStation owners can claim the GTA Online standalone edition for free until February 2022, which means Rockstar plans on charging for that at least. The developer has not announced a price point yet.
