Got the itch to dive back into a classic Ubisoft game like Shaun White Snowboarding or Assassin's Creed 2?
Well, sadly, it looks as though you’ll be limited to offline play, as Ubisoft has shut down online multiplayer services for a bunch of older games across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox.
The full list was made public via a post on Ubisoft’s website, which includes a full list of all of the titles affected by the shutdown, many of which you’ll be familiar with and some of which are really obscure.
Ubisoft Shuts Down Online Services for Old Games
For those who whittled away countless hours on the PS3 and Xbox 360, or on PC around the time that those consoles were in their heyday, the list will cut particularly deep, though there are a couple of games affected that lie just outside of this period.
For example, Rainbow Six Lockdown, a game so old it was released on the Nintendo Gamecube, PS2, and original Xbox is included, alongside Just Dance 2015, which is playable on PS4 and Xbox One.
Some Wii and WiiU titles are also included in the list, as well as some from the now-defunct streaming service OnLive, which should probably have had their servers shut down earlier, given that OnLive was discontinued all the way back in 2015.
From a practical perspective, the effects of the shutdown for the affected titles will result in a number of other little changes for players, with in-game news and player statistics being disabled, in addition to units and challenges in games that used Ubisoft Connect.
In the case of Connect games, some rewards will still be unlockable, but you won’t actually be able to receive them in-game.
On the other hand, things will be different for games that didn’t transfer from the old Uplay system to Ubisoft Connect, with all rewards being automatically unlocked on startup.
