Naughty Dog has been pretty quiet about its multiplayer spin-off for The Last of Us, with rumours claiming that it’s been put on ice, but not canceled. However, a recent statement from one of the studio’s developers says otherwise, as they claim that this game is still being worked on.

Vinit Agarwal, a Naughty Dog game director, confirmed that the company was still working on this previously announced multiplayer spin-off. Hilariously, Agarwal made this announcement on Twitter after beating all of the Special World courses in Super Mario Bros. Wonder.

“I did it! Wow that was hard, easily 300+ Marios dead in the process,” Agarwal said about Mario Bros. Wonder. “And so this tweet can live on in peace… yes, I’m still working on that game.”

At the time of writing, Naughty Dog has only ever shown off art for this still-unnamed The Last of Us multiplayer game. Beyond confirming that the multiplayer game exists, we still don’t know anything about the shooter and if it will even be coming out in this generation.

Fans have fond memories of the multiplayer that was in the original PS3 version, which was called Factions. While simple, it provided fans hours of entertainment, which is why many were sad when The Last of Us Part 1 launched without it. Hopefully, this new multiplayer title lives up to the hype, since there are a decent amount of expectations.

Right now, fans are waiting for news about the inevitable The Last of Us Part 2 remaster. Most fans are expecting this remaster to be announced around the same time as the HBO show’s second season. Obviously, more fans would prefer The Last of Us Part 3, but that probably won’t be coming for a long time.
