Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 makes some changes from the comic book lore fans are familiar with, and that’s okay, since adaptations are allowed to stray from the normal formula. However, a number of fans are displeased over Venom being immune to fire in the game, as that’s one of his main comic book weaknesses.

A quote tweet from That Miles Guy said: “Venom standing in fire feels illegal,” which opened the floodgates, leading to many fans agreeing that the change wasn’t great. While the symbiote is still weak to strong sounds in the game, leading to the iconic church bell sequence, ignoring his other weakness is a bit bothersome.

“I wish they actually explained it instead of ignoring it,” said DeBall.

“Yeah I hate how they ignore fire as if it’s not been a major weakness for the symbiote ever,” chimed in Toxic Spider.

To be fair, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 does show that the symbiote isn't weak to fire, though many fans wished there was a more thorough explanation. Some fans have also pointed out that there are so many explosions and fire in the sequel that making Venom weak to them would have ruined him. Needless to say, it’s a controversial change, though one that fans are willing to accept after a rant or two.

Obviously, the game can make major changes from the source material, as it would be a pretty dull experience if everything followed the comics. Having Peter work for Otto Octavius was a stroke of genius in the first game, as was naming Oscorp after Octavius and Osborn (they were called The O’s in college).

With all that being said, there are more comic book easter eggs in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 that will make fans happy. There have been hints that Daredevil will be a part of the game’s DLC, which sounds grand. Comic book costumes are also plentiful, from Otto Octavius’ Superior Spider-Man suit, to the more obscure Secret Wars: Civil War outfit, there’s a lot to love.
