Konami’s reveal of Silent Hill: Ascension was much worse than expected, as the interactive horror title relies on overall audience decisions and has a Battle Pass, for some reason. As if that wasn’t a disaster already, most of the fans in the chat were talking about, well, cum, and it led to this feature getting disabled.

Jacob Navok, the CEO of Ascension developer Genvid, told Kotaku that most of the fans on chat were talking about cum, particularly, Hideo Kojima’s. That’s a disgusting way to bring up how Kojima was supposed to direct Silent Hills, though it seems most were doing it for kicks.

Navok has pulled the feature from the second episode of Silent Hill: Ascension, just to avoid that fiasco. Apparently, chats for the next few episodes will be limited to emojis until they find a way to moderate this experience better, as revealed in a post-show livestream.

“Up until we can figure out how we handle the moderation queue,” Navok said. “We’re gonna limit the chat to stickers, and hopefully, I can get the emojis in there, too.”

For those unfamiliar with the oddball concept, Silent Hill: Ascension where players mostly have to make choices, similar to Telltale’s Walking Dead. However, unlike that game, Ascension must be played through an app or website, and future episodes are dependent on audience votes. It’s a mess, and the fact that it has a Battle Pass is both brave and stupid.

Ascension was announced as part of Konami’s grand plan to bring the series back, alongside the more exciting/worrisome Silent Hill 2 remake from Bloober Team. More Silent Hill projects were also revealed, but Ascension was the first one to come out and it has not left a good impression.

Considering how we haven’t had a Silent Hill release since the PS3 and Xbox 360 era, Silent Hill: Ascension is definitely disappointing. Hopefully, Bloober Team will do better with the Silent Hill 2 remake coming to PS5.
