Sony's London Studio Is Developing a Brand-New IP

It looks like PlayStation is developing new IP after all, or at least one new IP.

Sony’s London Studio posted two new job listings advertising specifically for help working on “a brand new, next-gen IP.”

The listings are for lead VFX artist and lead technical artist.

Other open positions at London Studio mention work on the team’s next big game, but not a new IP.

So whatever the new PlayStation IP is, Sony London is developing it alongside a new installment in an existing franchise.

It sounds as if this IP will help influence the studio’s later efforts as well.

The VFX lead listing mentions the candidate would be shaping the studio’s future VFX efforts in addition to working on the new IP to drive “visual effects quality into the next generation of rewarding gameplay and cinematics.”

Sony's London Studio Is Developing a Brand-New IP

There’s no indication yet what the new IP might be, though there’s every possibility it’s a VR game.

London Studio is best known for its 2019 VR hit Blood & Truth, and prior to that, the team launched the first PS VR game, VR Worlds.

Even though London Studio has more than VR games in its portfolio, a new IP with a new, next-gen visual direction from the studio that made a PS VR launch game makes us think PS VR 2.

If so, we’ll have to wait a while to find out more.

PS VR 2 isn’t due out until at least 2022 or later.
