How much Crash Bandicoot is too much? Well, according to developer Toys for Bob, there's really no limit to the amount of bandicoot you can have in your life. They have recently posted on X, sharing "a moment of gratitude" as they look ahead to "an exciting new chapter" in the life of the franchise.
Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard, means that now Toys for Bob is owned by Xbox, as well as other studios who have worked with Crash Bandicoot such as Beenox, developers of Crash Team Racing Nitro Fueled. There really is a lot of bandicoot experience in there.
Toys For Bob's latest game, the online arena battler Crash Team Rumble, came out in June and it was received with generally mixed/average reviews. At the moment, it holds an average score of 70% on Metacritic, across both platforms it was released on, PlayStation and Xbox.
Recently, the studio also announced that Spyro is coming to Season 3 of the game. That might not be a huge surprise for anyone that has been following the studio, as they have worked with both franchises in the past.
While the studio first worked on Crash Bandicoot in 2018, with the overall well received Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy, the same year they also released the Spyro Reignited trilogy. Both products reimagined the first three games in the franchises for a new audience, while keeping the gameplay mostly intact. Both were released to acclaim by both fans and critics.
Previously, Toys for Bob had worked on the Skylanders franchise for several years, from 2011 through 2016 and, many years ago, also created the Star Control franchise and worked on the first Pandemonium, a 2D platformer which ruled many magazine covers in Europe back in 1996.
Indeed, the future seems to be bright for Toys for Bob and also for the Crash Bandicoot franchise, which is definitely not going anywhere soon. What could be next, we wonder? A Fortnite-style shooter using only Wumpa fruits?
