There are numerous factors that can determine how beloved a Call of Duty title becomes. Ranging from consistent time to kill ratios to predictable spawning systems, these are just a few variables that are causing debate among Modern Warfare 2 fans dropping into the action.

Ahead of the Season 4 update going live, fans recently haven't been best pleased with some server performance updates, while others are looking forward to a classic Call of Duty 4 map making its long-awaited return.

While they wait for the new content to arrive, players are currently discussing why Modern Warfare 2 is one of the more frustrating instalments in the popular FPS franchise.

Is Modern Warfare 2 a frustrating game?

According to Reddit user Zyxliiii, Infinity Ward’s latest release just isn’t fun enough, with them lamenting: “I’m (still) curious as to why this game feels so unenjoyable.”

“Every time I play I instantly wanna turn it off,” says the frustrated fan. Judging by the comments, they aren't the only one that’s losing patience with multiplayer. In fact, one community member believes they’ve pinpointed the reason behind the frustration, declaring: “SBMM, the better you play and the more you win, the more it pairs you with more skilled players and vice versa.”

Skill-based matchmaking (SBMM) often splits the opinions of players. On one hand, some believe it creates competitive matches on a regular basis. but on the other, some dislike that it prevents more casual matches containing players of mixed skill levels from taking place.

Another player believes there are “three necessary things” the developer has ignored which would address the majority of frustration: “1. Map voting. 2. Rematches. 3. Casual lobbies with random skill levels.”

With the Modern Warfare 2 cycle reaching the halfway stage and attention slowly moving towards the reveal of the heavily-rumoured Modern Warfare 3, is time running out for Infinity Ward to improve Modern Warfare 2 and prevent further frustration?
