As players patiently wait for more information on what Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 has in store, leaks on Infinity Ward’s latest title continue to emerge. Following the worldwide reveal of the game in June, the developer remains tight-lipped much to the curiosity of fans.

So far, leaks have uncovered information on the Modern Warfare 2 weapon arsenal in addition to intel on Killstreaks and Field Upgrades.

With Infinity Ward keeping quiet on what Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer has on offer, the latest wave of leaks shares information on the number of Modern Warfare 2 maps that will appear when the game launches in October.

16 Modern Warfare 2 maps at launch

According to notable Call of Duty leaker @TheGhostOfHope, Modern Warfare 2 will launch with a total of 16 six-versus-six maps. While this number is much higher than a lot of previous releases, it’s four less than Vanguard which released with a total of 20 different battlegrounds.

In addition to the leaker, former professional Call of Duty player Thomas “ZooMaa” Papparatto corroborates the number in addition to sharing information about what other Call of Duty League players thought of the game during a recent playtest.

Prior to the game’s launch, pro Call of Duty players have already had the chance to play Modern Warfare 2. ZooMaa claims players tested four maps with two proving extremely popular. “This game seems pretty promising,” claims ZooMaa. “There’s 16 maps in total and two of the four they played they absolutely loved. As of right now, it seems pretty good,” adds the former pro.

Map design is a huge factor when it comes to determining the success of a new Call of Duty title. Let’s hope that the majority of the 16 maps are as good as the two that the best players in the world have tested.
