The Mario vs Donkey Kong remake coming to Nintendo Switch continues to look like a treat to fans who grew up with this GBA classic. While this remake will include everything from the GBA original, Nintendo recently revealed more new features, including worlds, playstyles, and more.
In addition to over 130 levels in the game, Nintendo confirmed that there would be two new worlds in this remake. Fans will be happy to know that these new worlds will have enemies and themes that weren’t in the GBA original.
Based on the new trailer, it looks like the additional worlds in Mario vs Donkey Kong have new ice and wind-based challenges that veteran players might not be used to. As long as players have patience and know how to react quickly, these should be fine challenges for everyone.
Speaking of “for everyone,” this Switch remake will also be introducing Casual Mode, making these levels a lot more forgiving. Normally, players die right away if they aren’t careful, but picking Casual Mode will deplete a bar and bring you back to the most recent checkpoint. Veteran fans of the GBA original might not need this, but it’s a great option for more relaxed players.
Of course, there are all the changes we were already made aware of in this remake of Mario vs Donkey Kong. The brand-new graphics are great, while co-op will let a second player control Toad and make levels easier to beat. Add everything we’ve written above and it’s clear that this looks like another quality remake from Nintendo.
Fans were pleasantly surprised to see this remake announced last year, especially after a recent lack of classic Donkey Kong games. It seemed that the Mario/Donkey Kong label was cursed during the Wii U/3DS era since all fans got were Lemmings-style puzzle games that were nowhere near as fun. With the second Switch coming soon, we’re glad Nintendo is focusing on a game fans want.
