IllFonic Shares Details on Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed

The Ghostbusters movie franchise may be a hit at the box office but the same can't be said for any video games involving the franchise.

The last release published by Activision in 2016 scored the worst review score in 2016 and since then, there's been no sign of any spooky goings-on in the neighbourhood.

Six years on, developer IllFonic has unveiled plans for a four-versus-one asymmetrical multiplayer game known as Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed. Players can choose to be one of four trainers that receive guidance from numerous members of the original cast.

According to the developer, players will "join with other Ghostbusters to chase and trap ghosts in museums, prisons, hotels, and more, and capture the ghosts before they can fully haunt the areas."

Those that prefer to play as the Ghost can use a range of techniques to scare the Ghostbusters into submission.

If a licensed game using the four-versus-one formula seems familiar, that’s because developer Illfonic is working on the game. IllFonic is known for its work from Friday the 13th and Predator: Hunting Grounds, both of which used the four-versus-one formula to varying degrees of success.
