Final Fantasy XIV Dawntrail expansion revealed

After a long wait, Final Fantasy XIV fans finally got a first look at the new FFXIV expansion, Dawntrail. It's been two years since the last one, Endwalker, and Square Enix didn't disappoint during the FFIXV Fan Fest stream.

The MMORPG, which was initially a critical and commercial failure when it first launched in 2010, is now one of Square Enix's most successful titles. Dawntrail will be the game's fifth major expansion following Heavensward (2015), Stormblood (2017), Shadowbringers (2019), and the aforementioned Endwalker (2021).

Dawntrail is one of the most anticipated expansions in Final Fantasy XIV for a plethora of reasons, so despite initial excitement, you might be disappointed to hear that Dawntrail won't be coming out this year.

When is FFXIV Dawntrail coming out?

Previous Final Fantasy XIV expansions have been released consistently every other year, however, Dawntrail is set to launch in the summer of 2024, three years after Endwalker.

Square Enix has plenty of reasons to not rush this expansion to meet an arbitrary release date. One of the most exciting things coming to FFXIV with Dawntrail is the overall graphical haul the game will receive. The first in the series.

Of course, the FFXIV fan fest livestream was jam-packed with tons of information, including the announcements of new allied tribes like the Pelupelu, a level cap increase (from level 90 to level 100), multiple new jobs, including two DPS-specific ones being added to the game, and even a Fall Guys x FFXIV crossover!

Another neat announcement made during the FFXIV fan fest is that the free trial of the MMORPG will be expanded. It will now include all content from Stormblood, the second expansion, for free.

Stormblood is expected to become part of the FFXIV free trial content with patch 6.5, so only a little bit longer before new fans interested in trying out the game can do so with access to massive amounts of content.
