It’s time to return to the Mojave, albeit one with a bit of a makeover, as a dedicated fan has ported the entirety of Fallout: New Vegas’ map into the much more controversial Fallout 4.

Using a new tool that converts Fallout 3 and New Vegas assets into Fallout 4’s upgraded game engine, a modder has brought every area of New Vegas into the newer game. However, it’s just the map, not the content of the game.

Modder Bololo11 created an FNV to FO4 tool that converts models and plugins into the Creation Engine. At the time of writing, the tool can’t convert NPCs, creatures or gameplay elements, but that could change sometime in the future. It may not be the best Fallout 4 mod, but it’s certainly geek-worthy.

While the map itself is now fully explorable within Fallout 4, New Vegas’ amazing quests and RPG gameplay can’t be found here. Furthermore, while armour and weapons can appear in the world, they cannot be equipped to the player in Fallout 4. At the end of the day, it’s not a free remaster if that’s what you’re looking for.

It’s also quite weird to see Fallout New Vegas’ assets lit by Fallout 4’s brighter, more advanced engine. Nevertheless, it’s always fun to trudge around the Mojave and take in all the sights, once again. Walking from Goodsprings to Dinky the T-Rex is a good time any day, even more so with the gorgeous blue hues of Fallout 4’s Commonwealth sun.

With the entire map available to play with, Fallout New Vegas could be recreated within Fallout 4. Most of the systems are already available, although it would be an inherently more FPS-centric vibe in comparison to the original. If another modded brings forward all the original game’s quests, voice lines and more, we could be playing a full on remaster of Obsidian’s Xbox 360-era masterpiece.

Fallout New Vegas is available right now on Xbox and PC. Fallout 4 is also available on Xbox, PlayStation and PC, the latter of which will be able to enjoy this fancy new mod.
