Life in the Commonwealth can be pretty scary sometimes. After all, when you’re being pursued by bloodthirsty raiders or have run out of bullets midway through a nest of feral ghouls, it’s definitely brown trousers time.

That said, given that Fallout New Vegas’ surrealist modding nightmares involving ‘The Crash Man’, too many Easy Petes and YouTuber Jake Paul are all locked on the other side of the country, you might be after a bit more horror for your Fallout 4 experience.

If that’s the case, then a new mod will make sure you don’t have to wait too long after selecting ‘new game’.

Get ready to kick off your next playthrough with a few jumpscares

The mod in question is called ‘Horror In Vault111’ and is the work of modder VirusInLullaby, whose previous work has added some more junk to the same vault in order to improve its atmosphere.

This time, however, they’ve used their modding powers for evil, turning the sole survivor’s apocalyptic origin point into something out of a Resident Evil or Silent Hill game.

That’s right, get ready for more spooky scary skeletons than usual, along with enough creepy mannequins to occupy several department stores and a healthy splattering of blood on the walls and floors.

Navigating also looks to involve finding some keys too, just in case you planned on legging it for the surface as soon as you got out of your cryo-pod.

Thankfully, you’ll need to grab modder Pootis’ ‘Earlier PipBoy’ before installing it, so at least if you’re planning on relying on having Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson with you in order to get a bit of a courage boost, he’ll be right there from the start.

Aside from this, the mod should work with most alternate start mods, though this might take a bit of trial and error.

So, stock up on psycho just in case you encounter any scary characters, head off for the Vault, and make sure to follow us for coverage of the wacky worlds of Elden Ring and Skyrim modding.
