When they’re not gathering alchemical ingredients, fiddling with their power armour or decorating their settlements, Fallout 4’s Sole Survivor can often be found fending off the many dangers of The Commonwealth.

Whether it’s pre-war Chinese soldiers lurking below the soil, fearsome raider bosses looking for their next victim or imposing Brotherhood of Steel gunships patrolling the skies, the sheer range of enemies inhabiting the wasteland makes just staying alive a minor miracle.

If you’re a vault dweller who prefers using old-school guns, rather than high-tech laser weapons or robotic followers, to blast your way to safety, a new mod might be worth loading into your chamber.

Feel like you need a bit more firepower to tame Fallout 4’s wasteland?

The mod in question is called ‘Combined Arms - Weapon Overhaul Project’ and is the work of prolific modder DankRafft. Their previous projects have helped get rid of all of the useless junk lying around The Commonwealth and completely overhauled the game’s hacking and lockpicking systems to make things easier.

This time, they’ve released something they’ve been working on for a very long time in the form of a massive weapon overhaul for the game, which delivers Novafinch’s uber popular ‘Combined Arms - Modern Weapon Pack’ and ‘Combined Arms - Expansion Pack’ to the game in a manner that properly integrates their guns into levelled lists, balances their damage, and avoids any bugs or exploits.

Designed to be installed after you’ve already grabbed those weapon packs, in addition to DankRafft’s ‘Equipment and Crafting Overhaul (ECO) - Redux’ and ‘Leveled Item Framework (LIF)’, this newest mod ensures that you’ll be able to choose which of their expensive list of guns are added to the game world, and which will solely be craftable by you.

It also ensures that you won’t be able to stumble across the likes of the Desert Eagle, P90 and M249 SAW at level one simply by visiting certain locations where they’ve been placed as static objects, gifting you an overpowered weapon that can be sold for a small fortune, as can happen in the original mods.

Though, when you do manage to get your hands on a trusty Barrett M82A1 or AS VAL, you’ll be able to personalise and tinker with them to your heart’s content thanks to the aforementioned crafting mod, with everything from regular weapon mods to custom ammo types included in the original mod having been given their own unique crafting and scraping recipes, some of which now require you to have taken a fitting perk.

If you want the full list of changes, which is the length of a novella, you can check out the mod’s description before you pull the trigger on downloading it.

Regardless of whether your Sole Survivor is now embracing the aesthetic of Call of Duty’s Captain Price, make sure to follow us for more updates on interesting mods like this one for Skyrim and Cyberpunk 2077. You can also check out our mods of the month for January 2023.
