Xbox Elite Controller V2 warranty extended as Microsoft faces lawsuit

Microsoft is extending the warranty on the Elite Controller Series 2.

A new class-action complaint is taking aim at Microsoft for the company’s Xbox Elite Controller — both the Series 1 and Series 2. In response, Windows Central reports, Microsoft will immediately extend the Elite Series 2 warranty from 90 days to a full year from the time of purchase.

“This extension applies retroactively for Elite Series 2 controllers sold to date,” Microsoft says in a new support page.

“If you incurred repair costs to service your Elite Series 2 controller, you’ll be issued a refund by Microsoft before October 31, 2020.”

The lawsuit alleges that “Microsoft does not disclose to consumers that the Xbox controllers are defective, causing the joystick component to fail. Members of the general public have the right to know the latent defects with the Xbox controller components.”

“We are aware that a small number of users may be experiencing issues with the Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 and are actively investigating with our engineering teams,” Microsoft said in 2019.

“We encourage any customers who experience issues with their hardware to contact Xbox Support.”
