Disney Dreamlight Valley has been a major success in Early Access, with fans enjoying the cozy game, but some misfortune is coming. Originally, the game was supposed to become a Free-to-Play title after leaving Early Access, but that’s no longer the case.

The game’s official website released a statement about leaving Early Access, announcing that it will remain a paid title from here on out. Apparently, this is to ensure that gamers will always get “premium content” from the title, ensuring that paid currency remains an option and not a necessity.

“As we look ahead to the official launch, with the learnings we've gained from Early Access, we’ve made the decision to remain a paid game for the foreseeable future,” the company announced. “This means we will not make the transition to be a free-to-play game when we leave Early Access on December 5th.”

While the company claims that being a paid game will keep Disney Dreamlight Valley fair for all, there are still plenty of expensive versions of the farming title. Players have the base game, the “cozy” edition, and the “gold” edition, all of which come with Moonstones, the in-game currency. It will be interesting to see how fair this game can be, especially with paid expansions coming.

Just to play devil’s advocate, Dreamlight Valley is mostly focused on chilling with Disney characters and farming activities. Sure, there are quests and puzzles alike, but they’re not necessarily tied to the Moonstones. Hopefully, Gameloft keeps Moonstone content for the cosmetics, though we doubt that will happen.

It will be interesting to see what happens to Disney Dreamlight Valley and if interest will remain high for the title. Farming simulators are quickly becoming an overexploited genre, but the game is still liked by fans, mostly thanks to the Disney characters.

Fans will be able to officially purchase Disney Dreamlight Valley on December 5 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Anybody who wants a Free-to-Play game with these characters has Disney Speedstorm, which is available on the same devices.
