The Call of Duty franchise is no stranger to collaborating with famous faces. Throughout the Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone cycle, the likes of Lionel Messi and NBA icon Kevin Durant have appeared as playable characters.

Following the reveal of the Season 5 roadmap for multiplayer and the battle royale, Activision has unveiled a wealth of new content coming to the games, ranging from the FR Avancer assault rifle to the latest batch of celebrities for players to purchase.

One of three celebs to set to arrive soon is hip-hop artist Nicki Minaj. While the rapper's Operator isn't available to purchase yet, her impending release has already divided the opinions of players.

Call of Duty Nicki Minaj Operator divides fans

On July 27, 2023, Call of Duty's Twitter account gave players their first look at an in-game version of Nicki Minaj, complete with pink hair and a fluorescent pink weapon blueprint. While some fans are excited by the arrival, user tyler4hq took to Reddit to express their frustration.

Other players that have replied to their post seem to hold sililar viewpoints, with one arguing: "(Activision) are so out of touch with their player base it's laughable," and another adding: "Why are they so dead set on ruining this game?"

Despite these calls for the publisher to stick to its mil-sim roots, some are embracing the celebrity crossover. One player in the thread declared: "I Just don't see what the big deal is anymore. This is the way it's been going for a while, getting upset isn't going to change anything."

In addition to Nicki Minaj, fellow rappers Snoop Dogg and 21 Savage are also arriving in their own store bundles. The d-o-double-g is no stranger to Call of Duty, having first appeared in Ghosts and more recently in Vanguard.

Nicki Minaj may not tie neatly into the lore of the Modern Warfare series as a member of Task Force 141, but her in-game appearance is bound to prove popular with fans of her music and players looking for another way to stand out from the crowd during a match.
