With Microsoft’s multi-billion dollar acquisition of Activision still rumbling on, the tech giant isn’t patiently waiting for industry leaders to approve of its deal that could change the gaming landscape.

Season Two for Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 is in full swing and while console and PC players continue dropping into the action, Nintendo fans remain in the dark when it comes to getting their fix of fast-paced multiplayer and battle royale action.

Nintendo fans, rejoice! Microsoft has announced it has officially agreed on a ten-year deal with the Japanese video game company that will result in Call of Duty arriving on Switch consoles.

Call of Duty is coming to Switch

On February 21, Microsoft vice chair and president, Brad Smith, shared the news on his Twitter page. “This is just part of our commitment to bring Xbox games and Activision titles like Call of Duty to more players on more platforms.”

As a result of the deal, Nintendo players will get their hands on Call of Duty releases on the same day as their Xbox counterparts “with full feature and content parity.” This means the Switch versions of CoD will come with all the features players expect from the console build.

Microsoft says it’s “committed to providing long-term equal access to Call of Duty to other gaming platforms, bringing more choice to more players and more competition to the gaming market.”

Competition is the main sticking point with Microsoft’s plans to acquire Activision. Sony’s concerns include the potential of the CoD franchise becoming a console exclusive along with Microsoft having a huge share of the market with a wealth of new titles under its ever-expanding umbrella. However, the tech company has offered the PlayStation manufacturer a similar deal to what Nintendo has accepted.

Although there aren’t any signs of Sony settling with Microsoft, Call of Duty coming to Nintendo is hugely exciting news.
